Christmas at the Line Camp

I’ve mentioned before that my brother, Mike Logan, was a cowboy poet. Not only did Mike have a way with words, but he had an amazing voice. Our family is blessed to have recordings of Mike reciting many of his poems.

Christmas at the Line Camp is a favorite of mine, and so very appropriate to the season. I hope you’ll enjoy hearing it.

A Quilted “Stained Glass” Angel

I love this particular quilt! She was a bear to create, but I’m really proud of the way she turned out.

I’d never tried this technique before, and have never attempted it again *lol* She’s done by machine in reverse applique… which means the black “leading” began life as a single large piece of black fabric with the design drawn on it in chalk. I cut out each section leaving a turn under (hem), then pinned the design fabric (often lamé or satin) underneath, turned the black “hem” toward the leading, and used a machine applique stitch to secure the leading to the design fabric. It was slow, painstaking work, but so worth the effort! She’s graced our home at Christmas for many years now, and someday will grace one of our kids’ homes.

Yep. Quilting is legacy. And one I’m glad I invested in all those years ago.

Christmas Memories…Old and New

When our children were small, we lived in Montana and I was active in a Mothers of Twins group. Every December, we’d get together for a cookie exchange and to make ornaments for our trees. Some of us were crafty; some of us weren’t. So the group made a habit of finding easy-to-make ornaments. After all, we wanted everyone to have fun… and to create memories we’d cherish through the years. Because they were easy, I always made several… and as our kids established their own households, many of those ornaments went along with them.

This year as I was helping (watching?) my youngest daughter decorate her home for Christmas, I saw quite a few of those ornaments added to her tree. As she pulled them out of boxes, we talked about how and when they were made. Childhood memories for her; memories of camaraderie for me.

And then she took it a step further and chose one pattern to make with her own kidlets. Old memories made new!

Isn’t it amazing what you can create with a toilet paper tube and some colorful yarn?

Wow! What a discovery!

We have a Power Pressure Cooker, but I’ve never tried to hard-boil eggs with it. It just seemed so weird… to put eggs in a pressure cooker and expect it to work. But I’ve really been fighting peeling my hard-boiled eggs recently (as in losing 25% of the egg with the shell!), so I decided to give it a try.

OMG! I’ll never go back to boiling again! Super quick and easy and the eggs peel just as nicely as this guy demonstrates in the video. Unbelievable!

Since I had so much fun peeling them, I had to look up how to store them once they’d been shelled… refrigerate in a sealed plastic dish with a couple of damp paper towels to keep them moist. Nice!
