Pocket Research

Are you familiar with Pocket? It’s a handy little service I use to bookmark articles I want to read later, or want to be able to come back to at another time… for research purposes. Since it allows me to tag articles, I can head to my list, click on my “historical” tag, and find articles on everything from historical fashion to castle construction to what types of furniture one might find in an 1800s parlor!

Of course, I have to have found those articles at some point, placed them in Pocket, and tagged them, but it’s a simple process and saves me from the dreaded, “I know I read about that somewhere! Now where the heck was it?”

Yep, thanks to Pocket, I can even find that article I read last year on “How to Cook a Medieval Feast“… and you never know when that will be exactly the information I need!

Kidlets

Who doesn’t love pictures of their grandkids? I’m a sucker for a great picture of my five, but getting them all together in a single shot is a rarity. This one is a few years old, but it’s definitely a favorite!

Ideas and Stories

Writers and their muses are odd characters. Sometimes I think my muse is a temperamental two-year-old. I open my computer, start a file, and begin to type ideas. Fine. Great. I come up with several options, and choose the one that feels the most interesting. Everything’s flowing smoothly so far.

Then I bring up my short story template, give the file a title and start to write…

And what appears on the screen is nothing even remotely similar to any of the ideas I came up with when brainstorming!

It’s like my muse knew all along what the story would be, but had absolutely NO intention of sharing the idea with my conscious mind. Seriously? You couldn’t have given me a clue?

But the words are flowing, so I’m not about to stop and lecture the child who is joyfully spilling the story out through my fingertips!

And you thought writers planned their work.

Maybe some do, but my best work comes straight from my subconscious, out through my fingers, and onto my computer screen without stopping to consult my conscious brain.

Writing. It’s a mystery, but it’s also pure joy!

Pretty Picture Sunday

Okay, so maybe they’d disagree about the “pretty” designation, but… Brothers! The eldest is about to graduate from high school, and that baby? He’s 13 now! My how time flies!

A Busy Day…

I was immersed in story today, so no time to think about blog content 😀

Instead, here’s a pretty book cover!
