Fun with Covers

It’s interesting that one of the things that terrified me about Indie publishing was creating covers… and now it’s one of my favorite parts. I really enjoy searching for the right art work, laying out the design, and knowing that I’m putting my own personal stamp on the outside of the story as well as on the inside!

Here are two options for the same short story that I worked on today:

I’m pleased with both of them, but I’ll be using the second. Why? Because it fits the Prentiss Twins brand. Take a look at the other three covers in the series, and I think you’ll see why.

Yep. Those jumping kids are what tie all of the covers together and let readers know these stories are part of the same series. Granted, the Halloween story doesn’t feature that nice beige background, but the black suits the theme… and the season! So cute as the first cover is, it doesn’t scream “Prentiss Twins!!!”

And I want these covers to shout their relationship 😀
