Link Salad, Anyone?

I thought I’d give you a tour of sites I find interesting. A bit of a sideways view into my mind on this Monday morning…

First up, meet my friend Jeannie, a romance writer with a different vision…8th century China. This is her very first blog and her first post is awesome. Enjoy!

Behler Blog always provides a balanced and thoughtful look at the issues in our business. I check this one daily.

For an agent’s perspective, I turn to Kristen Nelson. Her blog is always informative.

Need writing resources? Check out Holly Lisle. Holly has course work you can buy, but her free workshops are absolutely amazing!

And for wonderful support and general cheer, check out Romance Divas. The forum is the place to be. Very simply, RD ROCKS!

These sites are a basis for my surfing. Next week I’ll give you a another Link Salad. I wonder what that one will reveal?

Ciao!

Look At This!

I’ve added a new page to my blog. “Writer’s Resources” is a list of books on craft. Some I own, some I’ve borrowed, and some have simply been recommended by sources I trust.

If you’re thinking of starting a library of books on writing, here’s a place to start.

Enjoy!!

Lessons Learned from NaNo 2008

Did you notice I used past tense? And the month is only half gone? Well, it was intentional. My NaNo is officially over. Sigh.

What NaNo taught me this year is that sometimes you have to let go to find your way forward.

My story has been stalled for the last week. I’ve been writing, but nothing I’ve written has advanced the plot. I’ve been spinning in place, generating word count, but not making progress. Yesterday I said, “Enough!” and took myself out of the race in the forum where I was reporting my progress.

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I think my muse is perverse. She’s been AWOL for the last week, but the minute I throw up my hands in defeat, she reappears. I woke up this morning with the answer to my stagnated story line. Who knew she was waiting for me to let go?

NaNo is still over for me. The answer requires a complete rework of the story-so-far. My antagonist has changed along with the main external plot. But that’s okay. I know my characters better than I did on November 1 and now I have a substantial enough conflict to carry the weight of a novel.

Ultimately, a successful NaNo even though I won’t “win” the word count challenge.
