Ever After

We rewatched a favorite movie of mine the other night: Ever After. This Cinderella story, starring Drew Barrymore and Dougray Scott, works for me on so many levels! The writers removed the fantasy elements of the classic Disney version without sacrificing any of the tale’s enchantment. Replacing the heroine’s fairy godmother with Leonardo Da Vinci was inspired, and having the prince ride to her rescue only to find that she had extricated herself from a dangerous situation was masterfully done… and perfect for a modern audience.

This movie has so many wonderful moments that it’s no wonder I keep returning to it year after year. It may have been released in 1998, but the music, cinematography, writing, and acting are timeless.

*happy sigh*
